Faith in the Face of a Lion
Too often we hear of Christians who have to bear burdens in their lives. Many go through trials, that at times seem to overtake them. Loss of jobs, bankruptcy, loss of a family member, divorce, and so the list could go on and on. But through all these troublous times that one may endure, through all of it, God ask that we keep our Faith. Trust in Him, and pray to Him, that He will help us through whatever life may throw at us. Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” I can do ALL things, not some, not most, not a few things but ALL things!! By standing steadfast in our Faith, we can be given strength, to endure and overcome any of life’s burdens! In Luke 8:40-48 we read the story of a woman, who by her Faith, she was healed of a terrible dieses, just from touching Jesus.
But how many of us can say that our Faith is enough to protect us when faced by the threat of Lions? In Daniel chapter 6 we can read of Faith so great, that it saved a man who faced just that situation. At this time in History, we can read that there were rulers who were out to get Daniel. Only problem was, they could not find a single fault with him, to give them cause to punish him. “Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could not find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.” (Daniel 6:4) So, they decided to convince the King to make a law, that all people in the city, should not worship or bow to their God, except that they worship the King only, for thirty days. When the King signed the new law, Daniel went about his usual daily worship of God. Three times a day, he prayed and thanked God. When the rulers found Daniel doing this, they brought him before the King, with the charge of breaking the law. His punishment? To be cast into a den of Lions. Now, I’m not sure about you, but I would be a little bit worried at this point, which leads me to believe I need to work on my faith!!
Well, Daniel had no cause to be worried, he knew his Faith in God, would see him through this trial. The King went forth with the punishment, and had Daniel thrown into the den. But King Darius knew that Daniel’s God would save him, as we read in verse 16 “Then the King commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.” So the stone was placed at the opening, there Daniel waited for a day.
Now for the sign of Daniels Faith. When the king came back the next day, to have the stone rolled away, there stood Daniel, unharmed!! When the king asked if Daniel was alive, Daniel replied, “Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lion’s mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.” Faith in the face of lion’s saved Daniel!
Oh, how I wish I had just an ounce of Daniels faith. How wonderful would life be, to know that even when coming nose to nose with a lion, God would spare our lives? But, we can have this faith, if we just place our Trust in God, and give Him complete control. There used to be a bumper sticker that said “God is my co-pilot”. As nice as this sounds, it is way off base. We should be God’s co-pilot. Let God have control, and mighty things can be done. Remember, it only takes Faith of a mustard seed, to move a mountain. Have Faith, step out onto the water, and Trust that God will be there to take your hand, and lead you through even the strongest of storms. Faith in the face of a lion.
